For
this topic I had to choose a public heath matter that impacted child
development. The one I decided to choose was breast feeding. To me I feel like
too many people think of breast feeding in a negative context when in fact it
shouldn't be like that. Breast feeding is one of the most beautiful and special
time that a mother shares with her baby. Breast milk is so much better
for the baby then formula is and there are so many more nutrients that the
child gets. Sure that are times that it may be hard for the mother and baby but
in the end it’s all worth it. In Afghanistan
breastfeeding is a common practice. There is an issue though because they are Muslims
and have to cover all parts of body. They also have another problem the mother
cannot feed her baby in front of male family members.

Childbirth In Your Life and Around the World
I have never personally had the
pleasure to experience birth first hand other than my own, but I don’t remember
it. I have been in the hospital after
both my brothers were born. One was born naturally and I was able to watch the
video of his birth afterwards. My other brother had to have an emergency
C-Section done because during the ultra sound his heart rate kept dropping.
Come to figure out afterwards that the cord was wrapped around his neck and is
he had come naturally he wouldn't be here today. I have watched many shows such as a baby story
and 16 and pregnant that goes through live births and the parent’s story. So
while I have never seen a live birth I have seen a bunch on TV and have seen my
brother’s birth via video.
I chose Paris France for my
country. Once you suspect that you are
pregnant it needs be confirmed in an initial examination with a doctor. After
the first examination the doctor issues a three-part document to declare the
pregnancy. It’s called the déclaration de grossesse. Within three months that document
must be sent out to the health insurance fund and the family allowances fund to
avoid risking the loss of allowed benefits. The Caisse d'Assurance Maladie (The maternity
record book) is then issued with the dates of medical examinations, details of
permitted maternity leave and a health booklet to explain the steps of
pregnancy and care. In Paris home and natural births aren't very common. The
health and security of the baby and mother are of primary importance.
